

Services for Kenneth Callison Matthews, 92, of Lufkin, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, February 14, 2014 in the Gipson Funeral Home Chapel, with Bro. Elton Foster officiating. Interment will follow in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park.
Mr. Matthews was born on December 27, 1921 in Holly, Colorado and was raised in the Woodward, Sharon area of Oklahoma. He passed away on Tuesday, February 11, 2014.
Ken served his country in the 548th antiaircraft artillery automatic weapons battalion as a sergeant in the United States Army during World War II.
Before retiring in East Texas, his career in the oil and gas industry took him and his family all over the country. Ken served as a Deacon And Sunday School teacher for many years at Woodland Baptist Church. He was also a 33rd degree Scottish Rites Mason. Ken always filled his home with God’s love, music, and the sound of laughter.
Survivors include his daughters and sons-in-law, Jenny and Fred Gerwick of Plano, Merna and Jerry Tom Smith of Lufkin, Kimela and Mick Lambert of Bellaire and Julia Matthews of Lufkin; grandchildren, Kenny and Michelle Modisette, Freddy Gerwick, Ashley Rowell, Jennifer Briel Gerwick, Michael and Shay Smith, Blake and Katie Howard, Christopher Lambert, Jason Haber and Alex Howard. He was also blessed with seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 50 years, Lucille; mother, Jeannie Boxford; and many other loved ones.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday evening at Gipson Funeral Home.
