

Lillian Moore Steed, 97, of Lufkin, was born on June 23, 1914 in Groveton, Texas. She was one of nine children born to Margaret Elizabeth "Maggie" (McClain) and Sam Steven Moore. She passed away on Wednesday, April 18, 2012 at Hospice in the Pines - Inpatient Unit in Lufkin, Texas.
Lillian graduated from Groveton High School and obtained a Bachelor's and Master's Degree from Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, Texas. She married the love of her life, Cloyce C. Steed, in 1932 and shared a wonderful marriage for 54 years. Lillian was dedicated to and instrumental in forming the lives of her students as an elementary teacher and principal for 38 years in Houston and Lufkin. She was a member of Lufkin's First Baptist Church, President and Treasurer of the Lufkin Garden Club, and President of the Story League Club. Lillian enjoyed church, gardening, traveling, and shopping. Most of all, she cherished spending time with her family and friends. Lillian was a loving daughter, sister, mother, wife, friend, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother, and teacher.
Lillian is survived by her son, Stephen Steed of Lufkin; grandchildren, Stephanie and Matthew Hyde, Dan and Suzan Steed, Wendy Steed, Brad and Cecilia Steed and Julia Mahan; great-grandchildren, Rebecca and Sammy Hyde, Katy and Thomas Steed, Joshua and Dena Mahan, Sarah and Natalie Steed, and Zoe Steed; niece, Rita Breckenridge; and nephew, Bob Hutson.
Lillian was preceded in death by her husband, Cloyce C. Steed; son, Sammy Dan Steed; daughter-in-law, Karen Steed; parents; eight siblings, and niece, Alice Ann Muckelroy.
Pallbearers will be Stephen Breckenridge, Richard Curry, Stan Anderson, Thomas Steed, Joshua Mahan, and Sammy Dan Steed, Jr.
Lillian's family would like to thank Dr. Richard Roby for his kindness and caring during this most difficult time. We also wish to extend our thanks to the staffs of Hospice in the Pines - Inpatient Unit and Memorial Health Systems of East Texas.

Services for Lillian will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, April 21, 2012 in the Gipson Funeral Home Chapel, with Dr. Andrew G. Pittman officiating. Interment will follow in the Bennett Cemetery in Trinity County.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday evening at Gipson Funeral Home.
