

Marilyn Yvonne (Massey) Dossey of Lufkin passed away on January 31, 2025 in Lufkin at the age of 89. She was born December 4, 1935 in Webber Falls, Oklahoma to parents, James Thomas Massey and Sophia Gertrude (Moats) Massey.
Marilyn graduated from Valiant High School in 1954. She married James (Jimmy) Dossey, the love of her life in 1955. Shortly after, she was baptized and became a proud member of Greens Bayou Church of Christ. She had a giving heart and served her community as long as her body allowed her to. She was a lifetime member of the Parent Teacher Association, earned from her volunteer work in the schools.
Marilyn was proud of her role as a homemaker. She enjoyed sewing, home decorating, gardening, baking, and cleaning. She also was a collector of “Words to Live By” and natural home remedies. Marilyn never met a stranger. She was an avid host and was always excited to throw a party, shower, or little get-together. She and Jimmy were always excited to entertain at their lake house, and her New Year’s Eve parties were always a big hit!
Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents and siblings; husband, James Leon Dossey; and son, James David Dossey.
She is survived by her daughters, Vickey Carriere and husband Alan, Robyn Turner and husband Mike, and Tammy Dossey; grandchildren, Cara Dyer and husband Adam, Dustin Dossey, Magen Marcum and husband John, Lauren Shoemaker and husband Forest, Rebekah Carriere and husband Cody Soper, Kristofer Carriere, and Michael Turner; great-grandchildren, Hagen Dyer, Cooper Dyer, Keaton Dyer, Brayden Marcum, Jimma Dossey, Bentley Shoemaker, Maddilyn Shoemaker, and Braxton Marcum; and numerous nieces, nephews, friends, and sisters by marriage.
Friends and family are invited to a visitation from 1:00 – 2:00 pm on Friday, February 7, 2025, at Gipson Funeral Home in Lufkin. Funeral services will immediately follow at 2:00 pm, officiated by Dustin Dossey and Reagan McClenny.
Marilyn will be laid to rest beside her husband at San Jacinto Memorial Park in Houston.
If desired, memorial contributions may be made in Marilyn’s name to The Joseph House in Lufkin.
Arrangements are under the direction of Gipson Funeral Home.
