Reba Jane Athey

Services for Reba Jane Athey, of Lufkin, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, September 27, 2014 in the Gipson Funeral Home Chapel, with Bro. Jeff Robinson officiating. Interment will follow in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park.

Mrs. Athey passed away Wednesday, September 24, 2014.

Mrs. Athey was a homemaker and a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was a lifetime resident of Angelina County. She raised her family and anyone else she could take care of. She enjoyed sewing and gardening and was very fond of her pet dogs, Tiny and Roxy. She was a member of Southside Baptist Church. She loved her family and her church.

Survivors include her daughter, Janie Byrd and husband Mike of Longview; sons, Gleen Athey Jr. and wife Rhonda of Huntington and Mark Athey of Lufkin; grandchildren, Andrea Castillo and husband Martin, Justin Byrd, Trey Athey III, Candace McJunkin and husband Jeremy, Clint Davis, Joshua Athey and Ashlyn Athey; great-grandchildren, Alicia Byrd, Aidan Byrd, Tony Castillo and Jaxon McJunkin; and sisters-in-law, Billie Sue Stephens, Jodie Stephens and Lillie Mae Denson.

Mrs. Athey was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Gleen Athey Sr. in 2003; parents, Avis Callie (Thigpen) and Curtis Eddie Stephens; sister, Irene Stephens Franks; and brothers, Vastine Stephens, Herbert Stephens, and Hershel Stephens.

Pallbearers will be Joshua Athey, Martin Castillo, Trey Athey III, Kyle Elliott, Jeremy McJunkin, Justin Byrd and Aidan Byrd.

Honorary pallbearers will be the Coffee Ladies of Inwood Terrace, Neighbors and Friends of Inwood Terrace, and the Friendship Sunday School Class of Southside Baptist Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Mrs. Athey’s memory may be made to Hospice in the Pines, 1504 W. Frank Avenue, Lufkin, TX 75904; or to Southside Baptist Church, 1615 Tulane, Lufkin, TX 75901.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home.
