Rena was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She is survived by her son, Kent Johnson and his wife, Lawana, of Lufkin, TX; her daughter, Terry Mahne and her husband, Fred, of Wanasaka, MN; her grandchildren, Kevin Johnson and his wife, Kim, of Village Mills, TX, Brian Johnson of Lufkin, TX, Donya West and her husband, Travis, of Collbran, CO, Tristen Schell and her husband, Austin, of Stapleton, NE; as well as 12 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
Rena was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Sybil Haygood; her husbands, George Johnson, whom she married in 1947 and who passed away in 1966, and Richard English, whom she married in 1974 and who passed away in 2017; and her sisters, Nita Walton and Robbie Warren.
Rena had many passions in life. She loved to travel, fish, and take care of her flower garden. An avid crafter, she enjoyed creating beautiful things and, above all, spoiling her grandchildren. Rena’s greatest joy was her family, and she will be fondly remembered for her kindness, her nurturing spirit, and her ability to make everyone feel loved.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, February 2, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Gipson Funeral Home in Lufkin. A funeral service will be held on Monday, February 3, 2025, at 10:00 AM at the Elwyn M. Gipson Memorial Chapel at the Garden of Memories Memorial Park, where Rena will be laid to rest.
Rena will be dearly missed by all who knew her. May she rest in peace.
