Ronald Sheffield passed peacefully in his bed at home on Saturday, September 16, 2023. He was the third son of Oman Kervil and Gladys Marie Sheffield of Huntington, Texas. Oman was a carpenter and Gladys was a mother to eight children. Ronald had six brothers and all of them had a sister.
Ronald graduated from Huntington High School and attended a year of college at Sam Houston State University. He left school to join the Navy where he spent 4 years as an Electrical Mechanic stationed on the west coast. He came back and worked for Brown and Root for a little while but finished his career at the Papermill. Ronald worked as a Wet End Lab Tech, retiring early in 2001.
Ronald was an avid reader until his eyes would not let him. He listened to country music and had most old westerns memorized. The TV was always loud with Cops, On Patrol, or Boxing at night. And of course, Football!
Over the years, Ronald enjoyed hunting and fishing, farming, trapping, and building a few things including the family home. The most recent project was a bird house from a hollow log set in the garden plot. He chopped wood for the fireplace and tended the property around his home. One of Ronald's main hobbies was his family. From giving advice or teaching, helping with repairs or illnesses, and waiting on Carole with his whole heart, he loved and supported all of us in one way or another. He got on the floor and played with the great-grands still.
Ronald was one of the most levelheaded men on Earth. He would help and support anyone in need, picking up hitchhikers even when doing so became dangerous. He moved friends and family's homes and belongings a million miles. Always respectful, loved the Lord, and did not want to hear anything with casual cursing.
Ronald Sheffield taught many lessons such as value your family and friends, stay out of debt, and take care of your equipment. Ronald’ s values were instilled in the hearts of his family and mirrored in his friends. They all will be cherished until we come together again in heaven.
