

Doris Gertrude (Smallwood) Rogers, of Peabody and Lynnfield as well as a long-time resident of Lynn, passed away in her Brooksby Village home on Friday, December 2, 2016 at the age of 89. Born in Swampscott, she was the daughter of the late Russell L. and Doris M. (Downing) Smallwood. Doris was a graduate of Lynn English High School as well as the Salem Hospital School of Nursing. She worked for many years as the public health nurse for the city’s schools as well as Lynn City Hall. Doris met and married the love of her life, Edward L. Rogers on June 5, 1949 in St. Joseph’s Church in Lynn. The couple settled in Lynn to begin their family. Doris and Ed spent 55 years in love and marriage together until Ed’s passing in January 2004. Doris and Ed were founding parishioners of Our Lady of the Assumption Church in Lynnfield. She even initiated the school’s nursing program when O.L.A. first opened their school. Doris and Ed enjoyed their summers spent with dear friends at the Lake Forest Resort in Wakefield, NH and were also one-time residents of Essex Village in Lynnfield.
Doris leaves her children; Kathleen E. Caron and her husband, Michael of The Villages, FL and Kennebunk, ME, John J. Rogers and his wife, Helene of Peabody, and Anne Marie Page and her husband, William of Ipswich as well as her 15 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. She also leaves her daughter-in-law, Mary Rogers of Gloucester. In addition to her husband and parents, Doris was preceded in death by her son, Paul E. Rogers.
Funeral from the Cuffe-McGinn Funeral Home, 157 Maple St. LYNN on Wednesday, December 7, 2016 at 8:30 am followed by a Funeral Mass in Our Lady of the Assumption, 17 Grove St. Lynnfield at 10 am. Burial will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Lynn. Visiting Hours will be held in the funeral home on Tuesday, December 6, 2016 from 4 to 8 pm.
