Ed was born on March 26, 1950 in Boston, Massachusetts to the late Clayton Bailey and Dorothy Leah (Ray) Wright where his red hair gave him the nickname Rusty from the day he was born. He was raised in Malden, MA and graduated from Malden High School in 1968. Later, he attended Lowell Technological Institute (currently University of Massachusetts Lowell) and graduated with a degree in Engineering. He worked as an Engineer for decades for Western Electric, AT&T, Lucent Technologies, and Proctor & Gamble.
Ed’s life was enriched with Masonic activities, starting with the Order of DeMolay in his youth, and then with over 50 years as a Master Mason, during which time he served both Converse Lodge in Malden and Charles C. Dame Lodge in Georgetown as Master. In 2005, he was honored to receive the Joseph Warren Distinguished Service Medal, and continued to serve his lodges in various roles, including as Lodge Ritualist for over 20 years. His distinct “ritual voice” easily commanded the attention of each Brother in Lodge and his execution of each ritual piece was word-perfect.
Additionally, he was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star for 47 years and a Shriner at Aleppo Temple in Wilmington. In Eastern Star, he served as Worthy Patron of Fidelity Chapter No. 90 in Haverhill and Victory Chapter No. 157 in Marblehead more than 20 times.
He was an animal lover through and through, sharing his heart with several dogs throughout his life.
He was also a man of many collections—collecting stamps, coins, and model trains. He had a tool for almost every job and took it upon himself to fix everything that broke.
Ed is survived by his wife of 19 years, Elizabeth “Bettie” (Carrow) Wright, of Peabody, MA; daughter Alex Wright of Barrington, NH; daughter Brianna Kruczynski and husband Caz Kruczynski of Malden, MA; and brother Richard Wright and wife Stephanie Wright of Westford, MA.
Ed was predeceased by his father in 1987, his mother in 2009, his sister Nancy Ray Wright in 2020, and his brother Larry Wright in 2022.
