

Ernie was born in Lynn on Sept. 3, 1918 the son of Louie and Millie (Muise) Doucette.
Ernie grew up with his 11 brothers and sisters during the great depression. He attended Lynn Classical High School and actively participated in football and wrestling.
In 1939, Ernie was a barge skipper on the Erie Canal from New York City to Buffalo.
At the age of 25 he served as a WWII gunner's mate in the Navy from 1943-1945 and received the Commemorative Medal on behalf of Boris Yeltsin and the Russian people and he bravely participated in the "Murmansk Run" on Liberty Ships convoy. Without this voyage of vital supplies, the Russians may well not have stopped the Nazi invasion. He was awarded the bronze star on behalf of the US Naval Armed Guard.
Ernie was employed by General Electric Company River Works as a Machinist for 42 years until his retirement.
Poetry was a passion he developed in his later years, His award winning phrases have entertained family and friends for years. Ernie thoroughly enjoyed sports, walking, crossword puzzles and was also a very skilled craftsman transforming metal and recycled wood into useful and unique pieces. Ernie mostly enjoyed spending time with his family...always happily embarking on adventures and excursions.
He is survived by his loving children Nancy Spiro and her husband Robert of East Falmouth, Ernest Doucette Jr, of Exeter New Hampshire, Margie Rounds of Rockport. He was also the wonderful grandfather of Kim Spiro, Kelly Bradbury, Christine Doucette, the late Janis Doucette, Tania and Jennifer Hill and was a devoted great grandfather to Jared, Trevor and Owen Bradbury, Shelby Dunbar, Amaris Torres, Annabella and Jayden Hill. He is also survived by his sister May Redder of Brookfield, NH and his cousin Joseph Young of Reading and many nieces and nephews.
After his passing we asked him if it was in his power if he could do something about the Red Sox's next year!
Ernest’s Funeral Service will be in the CUFFE-McGINN FUNERAL HOME, 157 Maple St. Lynn on Wednesday at 12:00 noon. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visitation period will be Wednesday from 10:00 AM -12:00 noon. Interment will be in Pine Grove Cemetery. In Lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Residents Activities Fund, Salisbury Assisted Living, 19 Beach Road, Salisbury, MA 01952.
