

Evelyn P. (DeMille) Hannon, age 82, of Wakefield, formerly of Lynn, died Wednesday, January 25, 2012 at Salem Hospital. She was the beloved wife of the late John F. Herlihy who passed in 1972 and the late Colonel Albert J. Hannon who passed in 1996.
Born September 11, 1929, Evelyn grew up in West Lynn the daughter of the late William H. and Jennie (Porter) DeMille. She Graduated from Lynn Classical High School Class of 1947. Evelyn worked for several years at Abbott Refrigeration in Cambridge, and as a book keeper for General Products and Gear Company in both Lynn and Peabody, until her retirement in 1998. She was a lifelong member of the former Trinity United Methodist Church, Lynn where she was active throughout her life singing in the choir and serving on many Boards and Committees including the Administrative board and the Board of Trustees as Treasurer. Evelyn was active in the Red Hat Society and was a 30 year member of the North Suburban Home Organ Society of Woburn, MA where she served as President, and as a performing artist. She was a founding member of Citizens for a Better Lynn, a citizen action group that was largely responsible for halting an I-95 Interchange through the North Shore effectively saving the WWII Veterans lot in Pine Grove Cemetery, and her home on Winthrop Street. In addition to being active in several organizations, Evelyn enjoyed the arts and crafts, creating beautiful wedding cakes and making beautiful quilts.
She is survived by her loving children, John Herlihy and wife, Susan of Lynn and Lillian Fadden and husband, Linscott of Dover, NH. Sister of William DeMille and wife, Emily of Florida. Several nieces and nephews.
Evelyn’s Funeral will be held in the Cuffe-McGinn Funeral Home, 157 Maple Street, Lynn on Monday at 11AM. Burial to follow in Pine Grove Cemetery. Visiting hours Sunday from 2-6PM. Those desiring may make memorial contributions to the American Heart Association, PO Box 417005, Boston, MA 02241.
