

Mr. Francis W. Scally, 84, of Lynn died Sunday night in the Kaplan Family Hospice House, Danvers after a lengthy illness. Beloved husband of Patricia (Gauvain) Scally with whom he shared 58 years of marriage.
Francis was born in Lynn, son of the late Patrick and Mary (Callahan) Scally. He was a lifelong resident of the city and was a graduate of St. Mary’s High School Class of 1943 and also attended Dartmouth College, Notre Dame, Northeastern University and M.I.T.
He worked as a Technical Writer for the General Electric Company River Works for several years until his retirement in 1988. He previously worked for Sylvania and Raytheon.
Francis was a World War II Navy Veteran and recipient of the American Capaign Medal, being discharged with the rank of Ensign in 1949.
Francis enjoyed many things in his life especially his family and friends. He also enjoyed swimming, golfing, tennis and dancing. He loved playing chess and bridge.
In addition to his wife he is survived by 4 sons Thomas J. Scally and his wife Evelyn of Lowell, James A. Scally and his wife Maggie of Cotuit, Patrick J. Scally and his wife Mary of Bradford and David F. Scally and his wife Linda of Georgetown, 1 daughter Susan M. Ditty and her husband Robert of Lynn. Also survived by his 13 grandchildren Megan, Erin, Lianne, Doug, Angela, Nicholas, Tina, Sean, Jordan, Jim, Bob, Katie and Ryan. Also survived by his two great grandsons Brandon and Colton and several nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late John Scally, Teresa Scally-Dattaro and Margaret Scally-Nies.
Funeral from the CUFFE-MCGINN FUNERAL HOME, 157 Maple St. Lynn, Friday at 9:30AM. Funeral Mass in St. Pius V Church at 10:30AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Lynn. Visiting hours Thursday 3-7PM. Gifts in his memory may be made to the Kaplan Family Hospice House, 75 Sylvan St. Danvers, MA 01923.
