

Born in Lynn and a lifelong resident of the City, he was the son of the late Ernest and Georgianna (LaCrosse) Elwell.
Fred was a custom upholsterer for all of his working life. In the 1940’s he owned his own business of Oxford Street in Lynn. He then went to work for the Warfield Furniture Store, Atwill Furniture, and then Union Upholstery. He also taught upholstery in the Lynn Public School in the night school.
Fred was an avid Boston Sports fan. From 1974 to 1987 he served as a Pine Grove Cemetery Commissioner. He was a member of Mt. Carmel Lodge AF&AM, and was a 32 degree Mason in the Scottish Rite. He was also a former Deacon at the old East Baptist Church on Union Street.
Fred leaves three sons Fred J. Elwell, II of Lynn, James W. Elwell of NY, NY, and Jay S. Elwell of Lynn, a daughter Bonnie Minkle of Plymouth, a granddaughter Dale Ann Wheeler of Plymouth, a great-granddaughter Meagan Leigh Dibble of Nashville, TN, and several nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late Ernest Elwell, Irving Elwell, Robert Elwell, Ralph Elwell, Viola Hemsworth, Bertha Brown and Ethel Foss.
At the request of the family, funeral arrangements are private, with arrangements by the Cuffe-McGinn Funeral Home, 157 Maple Street, Lynn.
