

Mrs. Helen A. (Callahan) Courtney, age 86, of Danvers formerly of Lynn, died Wednesday morning in the Kaplan Family Hospice House following a lengthy illness. She was the beloved wife of the late Arthur B. Courtney.
Born in Lynn, Helen was the daughter of the late Alfred J. and Helen (Mahoney) Callahan. She resided in Lynn for most of her life before moving to Danvers in 1996.
Prior to her retirement in 1986, Helen worked as a Clerk for North American Electronics. She enjoyed knitting, reading, gardening, and her dogs.
She leaves her children, Viola F. Slavin and her husband Michael of Danvers and Arthur B. Courtney, Jr. of Lynn. She was the Grandmother of Courtney M. Slavin and Michael J. Slavin, Jr. She was the sister of Daniel J. Callahan of Peabody, Philip L. Callahan and his wife Judy Lewin of Lynn, and the late Alfred “Jack” Callahan, Robert “Butch” Callahan, David Callahan, Mary “Bette” LeBlanc, Louise Jenkins, Carole A. McCormick, Judith Bruen and Barbara Giarle. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
Helen’s Funeral will be held from the CUFFE-MCGINN FUNERAL HOME, 157 Maple St. Lynn on Saturday at 9:30AM followed by a Funeral Mass in Saint Pius V Church at 10:30AM. Relatives and friends invited. Interment Saint Mary’s Cemetery. Visiting Hours Friday 5-8PM. In lieu of flowers, gifts in Helen’s memory may be sent to Hospice of the North Shore, 75 Sylvan St. Suite B-102, Danvers, MA 01923.
