Joan M. Brewster

Mrs. Joan M. (Witham) Brewster, age 76, of Lynn, died on Sunday peacefully surrounded by her family in Union Hospital. She was the beloved wife of Richard Brewster Sr., with whom she shared 59 years of marriage.

Born in Lynn, Joan was the daughter of the late Ralph O. and Vivian (Patton) Witham. She attended Lynn English High School and was a drummer in the Marching Band.

She spent over 29 years as a Program Assistant for W.I.C. at the Lynn Community Health Center. She was previously employed in the same capacity at the former Lynn Hospital.

Joan enjoyed playing bingo and slots at Foxwoods. Above all, she loved spending time with family and friends.

In addition to her husband, she leaves her children, Richard Brewster, Jr. and his wife Paula of Lynn, Ronald Brewster and his fiancé Cheryl Bagley of Raymond, NH, Dennis Brewster and his wife Katrina of Ossipee, NH, Scott Brewster and his wife Kim of Lynn, Glen Brewster and his wife Michele of Lynn and Joanne Southwick and her husband Joseph of Lynn. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was the mother of the late Donald Brewster and sister of the late Ralph “Red” Witham Jr. and Patricia “Patsy” Newton.

Memorial Visitation will be held in the CUFFE-MCGINN FUNERAL HOME, 157 Maple St. Lynn on Friday from 2-5PM followed by a Memorial Service at 5:00PM. Relatives and friends invited. In lieu of flowers, donations in Joan’s memory may be sent to Hospice of the North Shore & Greater Boston, 75 Sylvan St. Suite B-102, Danvers, MA 01923 or the charity of your choice.
