Karl Ludwig Laubner of Lynn passed away at home on July 4 at 92 after an accomplished and honorable life. He was surrounded by his family. One of the remaining WWII veterans, he served as 1st Lieutenant in the Army Air Force stationed in the Philippines. He returned to finish the degree he had begun at Boston College at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. Karl worked in sales and subsequently as a baker at Laubner’s Home Bakeries, having been trained at the Chicago School of Baking. Holder of an MBA from Northeastern University, he studied for teaching credentials and ended his varied career as a teacher in the Lynn Public School System, focusing on both Science and Computer Science.
He leaves behind his wife of 48 years, Jacqueline (Opie) Laubner, his daughter Eve (Laubner) Bassett and her husband Wilbur E. Bassett, and his grandson Wilbur Karl Bassett. He also leaves his only living sibling, Ted Laubner of Holiday, FL. One of five children of Dennis and Matilda (Lamparter) Laubner, he is predeceased by baby brother John Laubner, sister Eva Laubner of Newburyport, and brother William Laubner of Amesbury.
He had wide interests in life, but none as dear to him as the welfare of his immediate family and the families of his siblings. He was a loving man, and that love was returned to him in full.
