

Born in Marblehead, she was the daughter of the late Howard and Marion (Chapman) Stone and granddaughter of the late Carrie (Green) Chapman. Marjorie was a lifelong Marbleheader and proud of it! She was the last of many generations born in town. After graduating from Marblehead High School, she attended Essex Agricultural Institute in Danvers to become a nutritionist. It was there that she met her lifelong friend, Judy Williams Dow from Beverly.
Marjorie worked at many jobs throughout her life. Upon graduation from Essex Aggie, she cooked for the Army Troops stationed in Marblehead during World War II. She was a secretary for Cranberry Industries in Marblehead, a sales clerk for Eaton’s Drugstore in Salem and a candy maker at Stowaway Sweets. Her own soft caramels were locally famous with friends and family.
She loved to research the family genealogy and town history. Marjorie was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and a tour guide at the Jeremiah Lee Mansion. She knew almost everyone in Marblehead even if they didn’t know her. Marge vacationed at the “Stone Camp” on Great East Lake in Acton, ME. Her father, Howard built that camp in 1934. Some of her favorite activities were visiting Fort Sewall, the lighthouses, swimming at Devereux Beach and sailing in the harbor. Most of the seafood restaurants and ice cream shops on the North Shore were checked out by Margie and her girlfriends. She was also a lifelong parishioner of the First Church in Swampscott, Congregational.
Margie was able to live on her own until she was 90 and drove a car well into her eighties. Visits with her many grandchildren and great grandchildren kept her busy and happy. She lived a long and happy life and was loved by many friends and family.
She leaves her sons, Richard H. Irons and his wife Linda of Limerick, ME and David E. Irons and his wife Diane of Wakefield. She was the grandmother of Kirk Irons and his wife Elizabeth of Wakefield, Rick Irons and his wife Tracy of Limerick, ME, Michael Irons of Saco, ME, Laurie Irons of Limerick, ME, Sally McCurry and her husband James of Lyman, ME, Kayla Irons of Limerick, ME, William Irons of Limerick, ME and Kathryn Irons of Portland, ME. She was the great grandmother of Max, Claire, Sofie, Lenora, Sabrina, Vanessa, Tabitha, Julin and Lenora and was the aunt of Betsy Gidley and Allan Stone. She was the sister of the late William Stone and Pete Stone, grandmother of the late Keith Irons and aunt of the late John Stone.
Memorial Visitation will be held in the CUFFE-MCGINN FUNERAL HOME, 157 Maple St. Lynn on Saturday from 1-2PM followed by a Memorial Service at 2:00PM. Relatives and friends invited. Gifts in her memory may be sent to the Marblehead Council on Aging, 10 Humphrey St. Marblehead, MA 01945.
