Marlene L. Whitfield

Mrs. Marlene L. (Martin) Whitfield, age 77, a lifelong resident of Lynn, passed away on Sunday, December 7, 2014 at Essex Park Nursing Home in Beverly. She was the beloved wife of the late Robert J. Kelly.

Marlene was born in Lynn to the late Anthony & Florence (Desrosiers) Martin on September 12, 1937. She was a graduate of Lynn Classical High School.

Prior to her retirement, she worked as a receptionist at the Lynn Community Healthcare Center for over 26 years. She was previously employed as a bartender at the Shamrock in Lynn for many years.

Mrs. Whitfield enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and loved traveling to Disney World and Foxwoods. She also loved spending time with her friends and talking with the ladies.

She is survived by four daughters: Sueann Crowley of Lynn, Janet McDonald of Yulee, FL, Pamela Whitfield of Lynn and Debra Whitfield of Gloucester; her sister, Mary Calef of Nashua, NH; and her brother, Donald Phinney & his wife Nancy of Manchester, NH. She was the Grandmother to Tammy, Jimmy and his wife, Lisa, and Jamie and was the Great Grandmother to Jared, Chad Jr., Victoria, Carlisle and Hunter. Also survived by several nieces and nephews. She was also the grandmother of the late Chad McDonald. She also leaves two best friends; Nancy McKie of Lynn and Edie Penwell of California.

Her funeral will be held from the CUFFE-McGINN FUNERAL HOME, 157 Maple St. Lynn on Friday at 9:00AM followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Pius V Church, Lynn at 10:00AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours will be Thursday from 4-8 PM. Interment will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
