Mary C. Rotherham O'Keefe

Mrs. Mary C. (Rotherham) O’Keefe, age 84, of Lynn, died on Tuesday, December 9, 2014 at the Kaplan Family Hospice House after a long struggle with cancer. She was the wife of Atty. John E. O’Keefe, with whom she shared 58 years of marriage.

Born in Revere, she was the daughter of the late Arthur R. and Muriel V. (Hooper) Rotherham. She grew up in Revere and graduated from Revere High School, Class of1948. She then received a Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Florida State University in 1953. She lived in Lynn for most of her life and enjoyed summers at her home on Pine River Pond in New Hampshire with her family.

Mary first taught at the old Lincoln School in Revere. After taking time off to raise her family she taught home economics for many years at Breed Jr. High School in Lynn.

Mary was a Cub Scout Den Mother and a Camp Fire Leader. Formerly active at St. Joseph’s Church, she served as Master Teacher of C.C.D., was a lector, and was past Prefect of the Sodality at St. Joseph’s. Most recently she was a communicant of St. Pius V Parish and was a member of the Prayer Shawl Ministry. She was active in fundraising at both parishes. Mary was an avid reader and enjoyed cooking, sewing and crafts. She loved holidays with her family. Her family was everything to her.

She was also the mother of John E. O’Keefe Jr., Mary C. Louvaris and her husband Michael, Laurie A. Hatchouel and her husband Philip, and Hilary J. O’Keefe all of Lynn and Thomas J.R. O’Keefe and his wife Linda of Saugus, and the sister of the late Muriel Shannon. She also leaves 10 grandchildren, John E. O’Keefe III and his wife Deanna, Shawn O’Keefe and his wife Miranda, Erin O’Keefe, Kathryn O’Keefe, Michael Louvaris, Peter Louvaris, Emily Hatchouel, P.J. Hatchouel, Keira O’Keefe and Katana O’Keefe, and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral from the Cuffe-McGinn Funeral Home, 157 Maple Street, Lynn on Saturday at 9AM. Funeral Mass in St. Pius V Church Lynn at 10AM. Burial in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Lynn. Visiting hours Friday 4-7 PM. Donations in her memory may be made to St. Pius V School Scholarship Fund in Mary C. O’Keefe’s name, 28 Bowler Street, Lynn, MA 01904.
