

Born and raised in Woburn, she is the daughter of the late Eleanor Crowley. She graduated from Woburn High School and earned certification from Marion Court Junior College. She earned a Bachelor’s from Salem State College and taught at Sacred Heart School in Lynn for more than 20 years.
MaryEllen was a loyal parishioner of St. Pius V Church in Lynn, and she served the St. Pius V community for more than five decades. She began as a religious education teacher, and eventually became the Associate Director of Religious Education, where she implemented the first kindergarten and preschool program, created Vacation Bible School, and expanded the youth ministry. When she became a classroom teacher at Sacred Heart School, Mrs. Valeri continued her volunteer efforts at St. Pius V, leading the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults program. For years, she led a team that welcomed adults into the Catholic Church, providing them learning and guidance as they received their sacraments.
In 2014, Cardinal Sean O'Malley awarded her the Cherevus medal for her decades of service to the church, educating young and old, and always looking out for those in need.
She was the wife of the late Richard E. Valeri. She is survived by her children, Glen Valeri of Lynn, and his wife Patricia, and daughter, Jennifer Falasca of Saugus, and her husband Tom; her grandchildren, Jared Valeri and his wife, Kristen, Jensen Valeri, Jake Valeri, Lindsey Valeri, Anna Falasca, Tommy Falasca and Ella Falasca; her great-grandchildren, Aaron and Ashton. She leaves brothers Douglas and his wife Joanna, of Salem, NH, Lawrence and his wife Diane, of Winchester, Jim Crowley of Billerica; and sister Barbara Ostroski and her husband Ray of Billerica; She is pre-deceased by her sisters. Betsy Dora of Woburn, Maureen Perkins of Nashua, NH, and brother-in-law Ron Viola of BIllerica.
Friends and family are kindly invited to attend MaryEllen’s visitation on Tuesday, March 22, 2022 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at the Cuffe-McGinn Funeral Home, 157 Maple Street, Lynn. Her Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, March 23, 2022 at 10:30 AM at St. Pius V Church, 215 Maple Street, Lynn. Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in MaryEllen’s name to St. Pius V Church or to Catholic Charities of Boston, www.ccab.org.
