Neil Wilson Dunlop (“Wedge”), 68, of Lynn, Massachusetts, passed away unexpectedly after a brief and sudden illness on January 9, 2026, surrounded by his family. Born on December 15, 1957, in Lynn, Neil was a lifelong resident who took great pride in his roots and community.
Neil dedicated his career to mechanical engineering, spending his entire career at General Electric in Lynn, where his intelligence, curiosity, and problem-solving skills were on full display. A true engineer at heart, Neil’s love of science and how things worked extended far beyond his profession and into every corner of his life.
He was known for his deep appreciation of science, history, birds, and for constantly tinkering with projects around the house. He was the “king of homeschooling,” patiently instructing his children and young family members at his black chalkboard, helping them learn to read and write, and instilling in them a lifelong love of learning.
Neil also had a passion for music. He taught himself to play both the guitar and piano and joyfully passed that love on to his children. Music, learning, and curiosity were central threads in his life.
Above all else, Neil was a devoted family man. His greatest joy came from spending time and taking care of his wife, children, and grandchildren, who were the center of his world. He took great pride in spending time with his grandchildren and his beloved grand dog, Mocha, whom he spoiled often.
Neil is survived by wife of 46 years, Doreen Dunlop (Calos); his daughter Nicole Torres and her husband William Torres, and their children Drake and Niko; his daughter Ashley Dunlop; his son Neil Dunlop and his wife Maggie Dunlop, and their children Vivienne and Lucas. He is survived by his siblings William, Debra, Jacqualyn, Scott, Barry, and James.
He was predeceased by his parents Robert and Mary Dunlop; his brothers Robert and Michael; his sisters Karen and Mary; and his in-laws Nicholas and Sheila Calos.
Visitation for Neil will be held on Thursday, January 15, 2026, from 4:00 to 7:00 PM in Cuffe-McGinn Funeral Home, 157 Maple Street, Lynn, Massachusetts. A burial will be held privately on Friday morning.
