A woman of great faith and fortitude, Norma R. Gorman, formerly of Lynn, MA, passed away in Sudbury, MA on, February 16, 2022. She was born in Lynn on January 28, 1928, to Earle L. Callahan and Helen J. (Adrien). The highlight of her life was meeting Francis J. Gorman, Jr., a tall, dark, handsome man she met at a Christmas party. Norma could still tell you about the dress she wore the night they met and the awful plaid suit-jacket he wore, even into her 90s. In June of 1949, she and Francis (“Bud”) wed and started a family. At 45 years old, she lost her best friend and the love of her life, her husband, who died of brain cancer. Norma continued to raise her family alone and was admired by many during difficult and trying times. Over the years, she created wonderful memories by visiting friends and relatives around the country, particularly trips to Florida to visit her youngest sister, Lucille. In 2000, a Jubilee Year, she visited Rome and was graced to walk through the Holy Doors at the Basilica of St. Peter.
Norma was predeceased by her husband, parents, sister Janice A. O’Brien, brother John T. Callahan, a daughter, Patricia A. Gorman, son-in-law Wayne R. Eddows, and a daughter-in-law, Nancy Gorman. She is survived by her sister Lucille Pelley of Lauderdale-by- the Sea, FL, her sons James (Donna) Gorman of Kittery, ME, Stephen (Cherie) Gorman of Monroe, CT, Jeffrey Gorman of Lynn, Timothy Gorman of Chelmsford, Scott Gorman (Arthur Thompson) of Beverly, Dennis (Diane) Gorman of Lynn, and daughters Mary Gorman (Michelle Bowdler) of Sudbury, Susan (Catherine) Gorman of Framingham, Linda (Wynn) Varney of Nottingham, NH, and Nancy Eddows (Terry Alles) of Goffstown, NH. She also leaves many grandchildren and great-grandchildren who loved their “Grammy”. The family would also like to express thanks to the staff of Orchard Hill Assisted Living in Sudbury, who provided loving care throughout Norma’s final years.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Tuesday, February 22, 2022, from 8:30 to10:30 am, at the Cuffe-McGinn Funeral Home, 157 Maple St., Lynn, MA 01904 followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am from the Saint Pius V Church, 215 Maple St. Lynn.
