LAWRENCE– Patricia Mary (McGlinn) Markey, age 84, of Newburyport, formerly a longtime resident of Lawrence, and Boca Raton, FL, passed away on Sunday, August 11th at High Pointe Hospice House in Haverhill, after a brief illness. Patricia was the beloved wife of the late Joseph Markey with whom she shared over 43 years of marriage.
Patricia was the loving mother of Mary Alice Burokas and her late, husband, Brian, of Hampton, NH, Patricia “Sissy” Markey of Methuen, P. Timothy Markey, of Bartlett, NH and Joseph Markey of Marblehead, the cherished grandmother of Thomas F. Armano and his wife, Jennifer of Methuen , Joseph Markey, III and Meaghan Markey, both of Florida great grandmother of Solomon Ortiz, Gianna Armano and Thomas C. Armano all of Methuen; the dear sister of the late Thomas McGlinn and Gayle Zarzour McGlinn of North Carolina and the aunt of several nieces and nephews, including Jenna (McGlinn) Dunbar and her husband, Johnny of North Carolina.
Born in Millinocket, Maine and raised in North Andover, she graduated from the former St. Patrick’s High School in Lawrence with the class of 1953. She worked as a special cataloger and acquisition specialist for many years at the Lawrence Public Library and the Museum of American Textile History in North Andover. After her retirement she worked with the City of Parkland, Florida to help establish its public library and served as the first Director at its inauguration and later Assistant Director and acquisition and catalogue librarian for over 20 years. She served as a trustee of the Lawrence Public Library for over 15 years. She enjoyed golf and belonged to the Boca Dunes and Southwinds Women’s golf leagues. She enjoyed reading and was a classic movie buff. The family would like to extend its thanks to the staff and volunteers at the High Pointe Hospice House in Haverhill for the compassionate care they provided during her stay there.
According to her wishes, her funeral services and burial in Bellevue Cemetery, Lawrence were private under the care of the Cuffe-McGinn Funeral Home, Lynn.
