

Rev. Mr. Robert Thomas Hackett of Franklin, MA & Naples, FL– died on March 8, 2016 at age 83. He was predeceased by his wife of 50 years Roseann C. Hackett. They were longtime residents of Lynnfield, MA. Devoted Father of Christine Roberge and her husband Steven of Cambridge, MA, Cheryl Hackett and her fiancé John Grosvenor of Newport RI, Robert Hackett and his wife Tia of Barrington NH, and Carolyn Rodgers and her husband Timothy of Franklin, MA. Loving Grandfather of Adam Roberge, Meghan Galvin, Robert Galvin, Finn Hackett, Sara Rodgers, Christopher Rodgers, Patrick Rodgers, Jack Rodgers, and the late Faolan Hackett. Brother of James Hackett of Tacoma, WA, Rosann Schwalls of McKinney, TX, and the late Bernard Hackett. Rev. Mr. Hackett was born in Arlington, MA in 1932. He served in the United States Marine Corps. He earned a bachelor’s and master’s degree from Boston State Teacher’s College. He was an educator, school administrator and taught Industrial Arts in Wakefield, Andover, Brookline and Boston. Upon his retirement from teaching, he took a number of positions including Northeast Petroleum, Stone & Webster and New England Casket Co. He also studied at St. John’s Seminary and was ordained a Roman Catholic Permanent Deacon in 1979. Rev. Mr. "Deacon Bob" Hackett served at parishes in Lynnfield, Wakefield, Groveland, and Bellingham. He was honored as Man of the Year in 1993 by Action for Boston Community Development for his work with providing clothing and home goods to charities in Boston. Cardinal Medeiros once called Deacon Bob "the Junkman for Jesus." A new calling, working with the Buildings Department with the Archdiocese of Boston, evolved into a Regional Manager position with Kindercare. Throughout his life, he supplemented his salaried positions with part-time work as a shoe salesman with Hanlon and Michelson’s shoes. Rev. Mr. Hackett touched the lives of many. He will be remembered most for his extraordinary ministry, which comforted those in need with acts of kindness, spiritual guidance and charitable gifts. A Funeral Mass will be held in St. Maria Goretti Parish, 112 Chestnut St. Lynnfield, MA on Monday, March 14th at 11 AM. Burial will follow in Forest Hill Cemetery, Lynnfield. Visiting Hours will be held in the church one hour prior from 10 to 11 AM.
