

Mr. Robert J. McLennan, age 89, of Lynn, died early Saturday morning in the Kaplan Family Hospice House surrounded by his loving family following a lengthy illness. He was the beloved husband of Ruth (Garrity) McLennan, with whom he recently celebrated 67 years of marriage.
Born in Boston, Bob was the son of the late John and Irene (Nolan) McLennan. He was a resident of Lynn and Swampscott for most of his life.
Throughout his career, he built several custom homes on the North Shore. He received the Meritorious Award for the Cathleen Apartments. Bob was also presented an award for the Alderman Chambers in the City of Chelsea. He spent many years as a consultant and carpenter for the Chelsea Building Department before finally retiring at the age of 80. Throughout his career, he made many contributions that enhanced the Chelsea community.
Bob loved his family and enjoyed dancing and singing. A great athlete, basketball was his favorite sport to play and he was an avid Red Sox fan.
In addition to his wife, he leaves his daughter, Cathy Dunnigan and her husband Gregg of Peabody. He was the Grandfather of Tony Nicosia and his wife Carrie and Tara Nicosia-Leger and her husband Matthew; the great grandfather to Jordan and Cole Nicosia and Boston and Sage Leger and the brother-in-law of Helena McLennan of Lynn. He was the loving uncle to Andrea McLennan and Lawrence and Gloria McLennan and great uncle to Ashley, Larry and Samantha. Bob also leaves his special loves ones in California. He was the brother of the late Eugene and Lawrence McLennan.
A Memorial Funeral Mass for Bob will be held in Saint Mary’s Chapel on Saturday, August 27, 2011 at 11:00AM. Relatives and friends kindly invited. At the request of the family, Visiting Hours are respectfully omitted and burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, gifts in Bob’s memory may be sent to the Kaplan Family Hospice House 75 Sylvan St. Suite B-102, Danvers, MA 01923.
