Sophia Pappas

Sophia “Ellie” (Demopoulos) Pappas passed away on March 25, 2026 at the age of 95. Sophia is survived by her son Philo Pappas, his wife Joy Pappas, her grandchildren, Daniel Pappas, his fiancée Stephanie Murray, Alexa Pappas, her wife Katie Ross, Eric Pappas, Brian Pappas, his wife Stephanie Huang, and her brother John Demopoulos. She was predeceased by her husband of 60 years, Theodore, “Ted” Pappas and her son Eugene Pappas. She was born in a small village in northern Greece called Ano Poroia and emigrated to the US in 1950. After coming to the US, she lived in Lynn MA where she brought up her family and stayed her entire life.

Sophia, (Yiayia) was a wonderful cook, she enjoyed making many traditional Greek dishes for her family. After starting out as a seamstress, she worked for many years for Sky Chefs, a food service provider for the airlines. With this job came the perks of travel, and travel she did! She had been all over the world, with her husband, her children, her grandchildren and sometimes by herself as she enjoyed being part of many airline clubs. She was an avid reader and was part of many book clubs in the area. She also enjoyed going to the gym and worked out on the treadmill until about a year ago. She was an active member of the PEO Chapter of Marblehead and always enjoyed meeting their scholarship recipients.
