William J. Fogarty

Mr. William J. Fogarty, age 86, of Melrose, formerly of Topsfield and Lynn, passed away peacefully on April 25th. He was the husband of Linda (Barone) Fogarty, with whom he shared 19 years of marriage. He was also the husband of the late Marilyn E. (O’Brien) Fogarty, with whom he shared 40 years of marriage.

Born in Rochester, NY, he was the son of the late Frank and Marion (Grant) Fogarty. He was a graduate of St. Mary’s High School class of 1945. William went on to Boston College to further his education. After his freshman year he enlisted in the United States Army and proudly defended our freedom during WWII. After serving in the Army he returned to Boston College and graduated with the class of 1950. William owned his own insurance courier business and was a boating enthusiast.

In addition to his wife, William is survived by his five children, Stephen Fogarty, Dale Cibene and his wife Alison of Melrose, Maureen Borek of Lynn, Carolyn Fogarty, and Danielle Farnsworth and her husband Erik of Melrose. He was the loving grandfather of seven grandchildren Brian, Heather, Andrew, Ella, Isabella, Will, and Luke, and two great-grandchildren Aiden and Lily. He was the brother of Thomas E. Fogarty and his late wife Ave’ and the late Mary K. Gronbeck and her late husband Raymond of Lynn. William is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

William’s funeral will be on Tuesday from the CUFFE-MCGINN FUNERAL HOME, 157 Maple St. Lynn at 8:30AM. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of the Assumption Church, Lynnfield at 11:00AM. Visitation will be Tuesday from 8:30-10:00AM. Relatives and friends invited. Interment Pine Grove Cemetery, Topsfield.
