Alf R. Brandal, born January 21, 1941, in Oslo, Norway, passed away on March 30, 2026, in Everett, Washington. He came to the United States in 1960 and made his home in Ballard, carrying his Norwegian heritage proudly throughout his life.
Alf served 23 years in the United States Air Force, including a tour in Vietnam. His military career took him around the world—Washington, Japan, Montana, Vietnam, Germany, and Colorado.
Upon settling back in the PNW, he spent some of his best years homesteading - raising goats, pigs, chickens, a cow, rabbits and a garden that followed the seasons. He loved the rhythm of the farm and taught what living organic was all about before it became a thing.
After retirement he continued to stay busy working in construction and found community with the church.
In his younger years, he enjoyed skiing, music, playing the accordion and photography. A proud Norwegian, he kept his heritage close, especially during holidays. He was a longtime member of the Sons of Norway and enjoyed Scandinavian dancing.
He is survived by his brother Rolf (wife Else), daughters Inger, Annelise, Katie, and son Jeff. He was predeceased by his parents, Severin and Evelyn (Svendsen), his wife Pracilla, wife Sharon and his brother Eivind. Alf married five times, was divorced three times, and widowed twice.
Alf will be laid to rest at Tahoma National Cemetery on May 26, 2026, at 11:30 a.m.
