

Bettilee Waugaman Westerfield passed into the presence of her Lord on February 4, 2013 following a courageous two year battle with cancer. She is survived by her husband Delmer, sons Dennis Penaluna (Helmi) of Lynnwood, Dean Penaluna (Lynda) of Lynnwood, step daughters Susan Coffey (Jim) of Index, Kathy Aston (Wendall) of Yakima, step sons Steven Westerfield (Penny) of Yakima, Mike Westerfield of Yakima, fifteen grand children and many great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Two sisters also survive her, Billie Williamson (Elmer) of Lake Forest Park and Beth Davis (Tom) of Olympia. Her parents, William and Doris Waugaman, and brother Dale Waugaman predeceased her.
She was born August 11, 1933 in Oskaloosa Iowa. After WWII her father brought the family to North Bend, WA where she lived and graduated from Mt Si High School at Snoqualmie in May 1952. In 1954 she married the love of her youth, Lanny Penaluna. She was widowed in Oct of 1977. In August of 1980 she married Delmer, whom she loved for the rest of her days.
She had a career with the Washington State Highway Department and continued her education and became an engineer, designing new roads. She retired from the Washington State Highway Department. She and her husband were members of Calvary Chapel of Seattle where she was a deacon for several years. They also ministered in many churches throughout the northwest and made two trips to Fiji to minister there. Bettie also wrote a book entitled Alcohol and the Bible.
She took great pride in her yard and was always looking for new and exciting plants to cultivate. Her greatest joys were her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She will be greatly missed by all who knew her, but her loving spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. Farewell Bettie, daughter, sister, wife, mother, and friend, until we meet again in the presence of the Lord whom you loved so much.
