Betty Ruth Gonzalez, age 63 of Shoreline, Washington passed away on April 23rd, 2021, surrounded by loved ones. Betty was born to Ana Julia Hernández and Arnoldo Robles of San Salvador, El Salvador on July 5th, 1957. Betty was the 3rd eldest of the couple’s nine children.
Betty grew up helping to take care of her younger siblings and in doing so developed a strong work ethic. When she was a bit older she worked in the Levi’s factory during the day and took classes at night in order to complete her high school education. She became a mother to Julio Cesar Robles in 1975 and then Oscar Alfredo Ortiz in 1978. In 1980 Betty decided to seek out a better life for herself and her family in the United States and journeyed to Houston, Texas to start a new life. It was in Houston, Texas that she met her husband Rodolfo Erick Gonzalez at the Stouffer’s Hotel where they worked together. They began dating in 1986 and moved in together shortly thereafter. Their first son together, Erick Alexander Gonzalez, was born in 1992 followed by their second son, Christian Gabriel Gonzalez, in 1993. They moved from Houston, Texas to Shoreline, WA in 1993 where both Betty and Erick continued with their careers in the hotel industry. Betty worked as a Banquet Server at Seattle’s famous Edgewater Hotel in addition to also working part time at a local Mexican restaurant, Rosita’s. They worked hard and made a home in Shoreline for their family. In the fall of 1997 Betty proudly accomplished her goal of becoming a United States citizen. In January of 1998 Erick and Betty were married. When Betty was not working, she spent time with her family, including her four grandchildren. She enjoyed traveling and loved sharing her love of life with family and friends. Her hobbies included coin collecting and shopping estate sales and thrift stores for art, jewelry, beanie babies or anything that caught her eye as a great bargain. She also collected items for the simple joy that they brought to her as well. She loved snuggling with her dog Dingo and was a true animal lover having rescued many dogs and birds with Erick over their years together.
Betty was preceded in death by both of her parents and her sister Gladis. She is survived by her husband Rodolfo, sons Julio, Oscar, Alexander and Christian and by her four grandchildren Oscar Jr, Benji, Emilio and Isa.
