September 14, 1973 - October 27, 2023
Brandon was born in Seattle, WA to Dennis and Patricia Gifford. He spent most of his childhood in the north Seattle area. Brandon attended Cascade High School in Everett and graduated in the class of 1991. After high school Brandon worked in the construction industry, starting at his Grandpa Kennath Allen’s company in Seattle, General and Marine Construction. Brandon enjoyed working with his Grandpa and Uncle Les, and the challenging projects involving tight spaces, steep slopes, and waterfront. He loved working outdoors and making friends and acquaintances at work.
Brandon married Laura Starkel in 2004 and they had a son, Max in 2005. We had lots of great adventures and fun. Brandon was loved beyond measure as he was the best husband, father, and best friend.
Brandon loved snowmobiling in the winter in the Lake Wenatchee area with family. He was a talented and extreme rider, but also our leader (after learning from uncle John), helper, snow digger, and mechanic. Brandon also loved riding his motorcycle in the summer. We had great times camping in Lake Roosevelt and floating the Wenatchee River with family and friends in the summer.
Brandon formed great friendships in our neighborhood and enjoyed helping neighbors on home or yard projects and then socializing and having fun at our neighborhood gatherings. Brandon was an avid Seahawks fan and had many great times with friends and family cheering them on.
Brandon was diagnosed with cancer in August 2021. Brandon battled so hard for the last 2&½ years enduring several rounds of chemotherapy, then a stem cell transplant which landed him in the ICU followed by the rehabilitation unit at UW Hospital. Brandon overcame so many difficulties and returned to work and “normal” living. The cancer came back fairly quickly and Brandon started palliative care. Brandon continued to have fun adventures taking local trips in the PNW to see his sister and hike Multomah Falls and Beacon Rock and trips to Leavenworth and a bucket list cruise to Alaska with his awesome supportive family.
Brandon touched many people’s lives and was a hugely important person to many. He had a happy life, worked hard, and formed many valuable relationships.
Brandon, Laura, and Max had so much loving care and support from family and friends. We are so grateful for the great quality of life he had and for all of the love that surrounded us.
Brandon is preceded in death by his mother Patricia (Allen) Davis.
Brandon is survived by his wife Laura, son Max, father Dennis, aunt Donna and Uncle John Tobias, cousins Sandy and Spencer Bowhay and Teresa Tobias, sister Cherie and Shawn Quist, sister Stephanie and Stephen Phillips, nieces and nephews Payton, Tyler, Olivia, Makiya (& Alexander), Nathan, Korbin, Cody, Carrie (& Riley), and Casey (& Kristin).
A memorial service for Brandon will be held Saturday, November 18, 2023 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Purdy & Walters at Floral Hills, 409 Filbert Road, Lynnwood, WA 98036.
