Clare was born in Seattle, Washington, where he was adopted by Albert and Anna Brockman. He grew up in the Ballard community and attended school at Whittier Elementary, James Monroe Junior High and Ballard High. He left school before his graduation to join the Marine Corps in 1947. While in the Marine Corps he met the love of his life and fellow Marine, Barbara Hall. They soon married and raised six children, primarily in Ballard. With a busy life he still managed to earn his high school diploma. For Clare, once a Marine, always a Marine. Semper Fidelis!
After leaving the Marine Corps in 1952, he became a proud lifelong Teamster working for companies such as Consolidated Freight, C&C Paint and even spent time working in the movie industry as a driver for many different celebrities. Clare enjoyed fishing and camping but most of all he enjoyed his family.
Clare is survived by his wife of 62 years, Barbara. He is also survived by his six children: Mary (Bill Root & Daughter Megan); Mike Brockman (Wife Debra & daughters Lindsay, Sarah, and son Sean); James Brockman (daughter Lynsi); Janet (Greg Smith & sons Dylan and Riley); Bill Brockman (wife Deborah & sons Nick and Danny); daughter Debra Neeley; and 4 great-grandsons. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Kyle Patrick Smith, who we are sure was there to greet him on March 18th.
Clare will be greatly missed by both family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Marine Corps Toys for Tots Charity.
