

Donald Schlumbaum, 86, went to be with the Lord on May 4, 2016. Don was born in Charter Oak, Iowa in 1929. His family moved to Holstein, Iowa in 1931, where he grew up and attended Holstein Public Schools through the 11th grade. Later he completed High School in Edmonds, WA and completed a two year Associate Program at Edmonds Community College with emphasis on management. He joined the U. S. Navy in September of 1948. In the service Don worked as a Personnel Officer with Naval Aviation units and progressed through the ratings, retiring in 1968 as a Senior Chief Personnelman. Following Naval Service he went to work for the Navy as a civilian in positions of Employee Development Specialist, Public Works Administrative Officer, Training Officer and Personnel Specialist. He retired in 1985 as Supervisory Personnel Specialist GS-12.
Don was married to Goldie (Sutton) Schlumbaum for 55 years, until her death in 2006. He is survived by his wife, Jan (Gerhardt) Schlumbaum, and two children, Wayne Schlumbaum and Shirley (Roger) Maynard; two grandchildren, Angela McDonald and Matthew Maynard; six great-grandchildren and many step-children, step-grandchildren and step great-grandchildren.
Don was active in scouting as an Assistant Scout Master, enjoyed fishing and camping with the Golden Campers, and loved spending time with his family. His grandchildren and great grandchildren, especially, brought him great joy. He was dearly loved and will be greatly missed.
Visitation will take place at Floral Hills Cemetery, 409 Filbert Road, Lynnwood, WA 98036 on Saturday, May 14 and Sunday, May 15, from 9:00 am to noon. A memorial service is planned for 3:00, Sunday, May 15 at Peace Lutheran Church, 202 Dickinson Ave, Monroe, WA 98272. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Little Doves Pre-School at Peace Lutheran Church, in Don’s memory.
