I wrote this poem for Grandma Dottie and was told to post it on here!

The woman you were is not easy to describe
There is so much to say,
But not enough space to write

Your smile, personality, jewelry, your hair
You let yourself shine
Through the things you would wear

Everything was leopard from your shoes to your bed
Sometimes I would wonder,
What goes through your head?

You had friends here, you had friends there
So many pals
You made a friend almost everywhere

Letters from you always being sent through the mail
Everyone heard from you
Never did you fail

The day you passed on, I was sitting at home
I was supposed to attend school
But I knew I shouldn't go

Sitting in the dining room, I was listening to the tears
Mom knew it wouldn't be long
This was the day I'd always feared

When I knew the time had come, and it was obvious what to do
I ran into your room crying
And said that I loved you

My whole life at night I would crawl in bed and lay
I'd lay there and cry
Always dreading this day

The love you brought makes it hard to forget
But something you'd never want
Is me to be upset

My grandma was definitely better than the rest
Thanks to you,
My life is the best

There are so many reasons why I need you here
Brightening my day
When your voice entered my ear

I wish I could have told you once again before you went
How much you mean to me
90 years well spent

I know you're still here, still here with me
Here watching over us
Just not physically

All we can do is thank the Lord that we had you
I am so lucky
If only you knew

The memories we have will never go away
As long as I live
The memories will stay

Now depending on how you view the death of one another
That could be the end
Or we will again be together

Without you here will always be painful
Until I see you again
I'll forever be, Grandma's little angel

I love you so much, and I miss you Grandma!

Hot Cha Cha is what I called her, I met Darshell n her mom in the 70's.We were friends rite away. thats how she was with everyone. Darshell n I worked 2gether @ a place called South Pasific. we were both bus girls, n in high school.I really wish they both would of come out here to visit me once in a while, I don't go 2 PX the weather there is just ungodly, I always wanted to c both of u again, b4 the end, I miss u both, Hot cha cha is dancing with Jesus now, she's not thinking about us. but we r thinking about her.I hope 2 c u sometime Darshell.love u

God puts some extra special people on this earth and Dottie was one of them. Her jokes will make you laugh for a lifetime. I will miss my Christmas card every year, handwritten with pictures of her in it. I feel so lucky to have had know this amazing woman. Thank you Darchelle for sharing your mother with me. I hope she has saved us a seat in heaven sitting right next to her. She is someone you wouldn't mind spending eternity with. My love and sympathy to all her family and friends...

Among the hundreds of fabulous things Dottie did in her lifetime she produced 4 wonderful children. Having the pleasure to know and love her eldest I can safety say her love for live and spirit lives on. Darroyl''s pretty special too! Dottie was the universes gift to us all. She was treasured and will be missed. . Love, Gaylie

I feel like a very lucky man to have met Dottie. She called my dad "The Turtle" because he was always late for their dates. She was always full of humor and saw the good things in everybody. She could make me laugh no matter what the situation. I loved how she said "what ever floats your bout; that's what I always say". I miss here but feel so fortunate to have had her in my life.

Dottie was always so sweet to me when I lived in Arizona with Darlynn.Dottie, in her early 70`s at the time, once said"I will buy myself a Camaro so I can leave all the young folks in the dust!". she did buy that Camaro. what a lady!!!!

We were so lucky to have found Dottie,when we were looking for someone to watch our kids when we first moved to Phoenix. She watched Jesse and Haley for several years. She was an amazing person the kids loved her and so did we!
We stayed in touch over the years and it was always great hearing from Dottie.She was so energetic and always had a smile on her face! We will miss very much...

I only really knew Dottie as a very young child, yet I continued to hear from her over the years as I grew up. Every year she would send me very thoughtful birthday cards, usually accompanied by a gift ($10 check or a sporting team t-shirt) she was such a sweet lady, and the warm stories that my mother shared with me about her are the only memories I will have. RIP Dottie! You will be missed!

She will be missed but leaves many great memories.

What a privilege to know Aunt Dorothy. She was so welcoming, fun and loving.  She will be greatly missed.

Having Darlyn for a best friend for over 35 years has come with lots of benefits, not the least of which has been the joy of having the "Dottie Experience."  I'm very jealous of those of got to live near her and experience her exuberance for life far more frequently than I.  

I can say with certainty that the far too rare chances I had to be with her enriched my life immensely.

Of course, as even now, one didn't have to physically be with Dottie to have "The Experience."  The stories her children have carried with them and the retelling over and over provide that joyful experience.  I even have friends who never met Dottie (who never met Dar, for that matter) but who "knew" Dottie and loved her.  They experienced Dottie through me, and unbeknownst to even herself, she enriched their lives.  That is what immortality is to me.

How blessed we all are to have had so many good years with such an incredible woman.  She lives on. . .rest assured.  She lives on through the goodness she exhibited and taught her family.  She lives on through the fun stories we all have told and will continue to tell.  

This is a woman who indeed left her world a better place than she found it.  She is perhaps the most immortal being I have ever had the gift of knowing.

Don and our entire family join me in sending our most heart-felt condolences and love to all you Ds, as well as to Dottie's beautiful grandchildren, whom she loved so much!

I am so glad to see that "Aunt Dort" never changed. I have many fond memories of the time we spent with you guys when I was younger.  I know she will be greatly missed.  You were truely blessed to have such a free spirt as your mother. I know my mom will greatly miss her.

"Grandma Dottie" as we knew her took care of our sons Stephen and Christoper when they were just babies over 20 years ago.  She has remained their grandma for all of these years. She has also become grandma to Anthony, Francesca and Katrina.  She was the most special person in their life and will be greatly missed!  She never forgot a birthday and always sent pictures and a letter.  I know that all of us are better people today because of her influence.  I treasure all of our memories with her!

Aunt Dorothy was such a big part of my childhood and so much fun to be around.  She will be missed, but definitely never forgotton!

I met this incredible woman years ago really thru the eyes of my sister, Patsy.  I witnessed a relationship that was so full of love and acceptance.  I knew this woman must be someone special.  Then I met this incredible woman again thru the eyes of my neice, Arabeth.  Again a relationship that was full of love and meaning and only confirming to me how very special Dottie Derthick was!  Thank you God for sending this wonderful woman into the lives of my family!!  xoxxo to you Grandma Dottie!!

I am so blessed to have had 36 wonderful years with this AMAZING woman in my life!!!  I will miss her so much, but I will love spreading her HA CHA-CHA lifestyle around!!! I love you you grandma Dottie!

The world has lost its brightest star, but Heaven is celebrating and laughing like never before.  I sure hope my mom is with her!  Devi, Darchelle, Darlyn and Darroyl, because of you, her light will continue to shine.  Each one of you share so many of her wonderful qualities, from the moment I met each of you, like your mother - you made me feel like I had known you forever. Since Devi and I became friends over 30 years ago, I have been lucky enough to have Dottie in my life and the many memories I will treasure forever.  I love you so much Dottie!!

Dottie will be "Walking after midnight in the moonlight" in a much better place.  The stories, the laughter, the wonderful woman we had in our lives.......KHITC my sweet lady.  Love you.

Dear Darlyn, Darroyl, Darchelle, Devi and Jim,
Dennis and I want to send you our deepest sympathy on the loss of your loving "mom".  What a gift to the world she was with her love of life attitude.  She left an impact on everyone she met.  We as her family were truly blessed to have had her a part of it.  I guess the one thing we wish is that when we die we will have left some impact on the world so that it knows we were here; "Aunt Dorothy" has achieved this in a big way.  The world she touched will definitely remember for 90 years "she was here"

 Wow this friend was amazing!!!!! Dottie was the best  mother in law anyone could have.
