Glenn Holloway passed away on October 20, 2014 at Overlake Hospital in Bellevue, WA. He was 94 years old. Glenn was born in Swan River Manitoba Canada where his family homesteaded, then worked on the family farm in Arcola Saskatchewan Canada until he was 16. His family later moved to Vancouver BC where Glenn attended Vancouver Technical College studying engineering and oil refinement methods. At the age of 21 he came to the United States as an employee of the Standard Oil Company of California (Chevron) and, in 1941, was assigned to the Persian Gulf. Glenn boarded the USS President Grant in San Francisco and headed for Bahrain. In December 1941, Glenn was taken POW and spent 3 years and 2 months in Santo Thomas University and Los Banos prison camps in Manila PI. Following the war, Chevron sent Glenn to India where he met his future wife Louise, a British citizen in Bombay. They married in Calcutta India in 1948 and lived in Karachi, Pakistan for about a year. Glenn and Louise came to the United States on October 12, 1949, arriving in New York on the Queen Mary. Glenn took a job in San Francisco, working for Richfield Oil Company, before moving to Eureka, California where he worked for Goodyear. During their Eureka years, Glenn and Louise started their family. He and Louise became US citizens in 1957. The family relocated to Washington State in 1967, ultimately settling in Mountlake Terrace. Glenn worked for the Edmonds School District in the maintenance department where he worked until he retired in 1985. The couple enjoyed traveling and made many trips to include India, Europe, Hawaii and Mexico. Glenn was an active member of the Ex-Prisoners of War Evergreen Chapter Everett and was invited to share his POW stories with local high school students. Glenn was always optimistic, good natured and had a good sense of humor. His presence will be missed. Glenn is survived by his wife of 66 years, Louise; sons Alan, Brian (Ame), Kent (Cindy); daughters Marie Herrick (Craig) and Jill Hanson (Jerry); four grandchildren Jody, Josh, Bret and Emily; and three great-grandchildren Elyse, Cameron and Caleb.
