Joe was born on September 9, 1923, in Spokane. He is the son of Joseph Clifford Schrock, a World War I Veteran and his mother, Gladys Margaret Rubens. Joe grew up near Green Lake with his sisters Elaine and Beverly. He rode his bike from north Seattle to Boeing Field, walked the railroad tracks to Richmond Beach and hiked to Carkeek Park. He went to St. John's Catholic School, attended Ballard High School briefly then transferred to O'Dea High School.
After the bombing of Pearl Harbor in December 1941, Joe at the age of 19 enlisted into the Navy and joined Naval Company 648-43, Regiment 5, Battalion 18, where he was assigned a Machinist's Mate on a large Naval Transport Ship. He received the Asiatic Pacific Area Campaign Medal, the American Area Campaign Medal and the World War II Victory Medal and was Honorably Discharged in March 1946. After the war he took over his dad's business Acme Tire Company, which he eventually converted to Acme Detail an auto-body repair, paint, and detail shop.
Joe married Mary Marcella Braaten on May 24, 1947, in Seattle and had 4 daughters Dana (Bill), Bonnie (Rich), Debbie (Rob) and Penny (Rick). They lived in the Crown Hill area until moving to Shoreline. Joe and Mary had a very close enduring relationship, they danced and golfed together most all their lives. Joe had a passion for hot cars and would buy, fix-up and sell numerous cars over the years. He enjoyed gardening, collecting stamps, coins, paper money, making model cars/airplanes and playing pinocle.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 72 years. He is survived by his 4 daughters, his 11 grandchildren, Bryan, Alison, Adam, Jesse, Andrea, Tyler, Breanna, Brad, Melissa, Ashley, and Kellen (their spouses) and his 12+ great grandchildren.
Joe was a kind, caring, generous, supportive, encouraging, and loving husband/father and we were so very blessed that he was in our lives for so many years.
