Lauren Sierra Johnson, a beloved daughter, a precious sister, and a friend to so many, suddenly and unexpectedly departed from our lives on Tuesday, August 22, 2017. She passed away at home in Lynnwood, Washington at the far too young age of 23.
Lauren was born to Eugene M. and Barbara J. Johnson on August 29, 1993 in Seattle, Washington. Lauren was welcomed into the world by her sister, Megan Noel Johnson, and her brother Brandon Mills Johnson.
Lauren grew up in Lynnwood and attended Lynndale Elementary, Meadowdale Middle School, and graduated with style as a Maverick from Meadowdale High School in 2011. Lauren had a passion for music, and loved to sing and perform. She was an avid participant in many music programs throughout her school years. She also enjoyed participating in school sports. She was a member of the wrestling and track teams in middle school, and the track team in high school. Lauren loved to skate and longboard and she was well known at the Lynnwood Bowl and Skate. After high school, Lauren went on to take classes at Edmonds and Shoreline Community Colleges.
Lauren enjoyed dancing at Pow Wows and celebrating the Native American side of her heritage. She was a member of the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa Indians and a descendant of the Fort Peck Assiniboine and Sioux Tribes.
As an adult, Lauren continued to pursue her musical aspirations and even flew to Los Angeles to audition for NBC’s The Voice. Lauren took her next step toward stardom earlier this year by joining the local R&B and Pop band Kronicle.
Lauren chose to focus her work career in the food services and catering industry. She worked as a barista and coffee artist, a waitress, and a bartender. She always said “people like talking to bartenders and I like talking to people”. She attended ABC Bartending School where she earned her degree in Mixology in 2015.
Lauren was an incredibly outgoing young woman who made new friends easily and often. If you were not her friend, it was simply because you had not met her yet. She will be remembered as a unique person who insisted on knowing people through their hearts and souls and treated each person as an individual. Lauren always spoke from her heart. She did not always tell you what you wanted to hear, but she would always tell you what you needed to hear. Lauren would accept nothing less than for each person she met to embrace their true selves. Most of all, she lived her own life refusing to be defined as ordinary or conforming to anyone else’s standards. Lauren never slowed down because she was always on the move to achieve her dreams.
Lauren will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by her parents Eugene M. Johnson and Barbara J. Johnson of Lynnwood; her sister Megan N. Johnson (Drew Walker) of Lynnwood; her brother Brandon M. Johnson (Shelly Knight) of Fairfax, VA; and her grandmother Roberta Brien-Garfield of Poplar, MT. She will also be remembered with love by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews, in Washington, Montana and throughout the United States.
Lauren is preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Richard L. and Amelia A. Johnson, her maternal grandfather, George P. Brien, and recently, her beloved family kitty, Jeepers.
We will celebrate her life at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, September 3, 2017, at Floral Hills Cemetery in Lynnwood, Washington. Visitation will be held from 1:00 – 5:00 p.m. on Friday, September 1, 2017 and again, prior to the funeral service, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, September 3, 2017.
