Lorna, daughter of Sven (John) and Ruby Swanson, was born on February 13, 1927, in Sydney, Australia. She passed away peacefully on May 21, 2024. She leaves behind her son Barry Williams (Sue) of San Diego, CA, her sister-in-law Nancy Meador (Bob) of Bothell, WA, sister-in-law Velda Williams of South Cle Elum, and several nieces and nephews. Lorna was welcomed into heaven by her loving husband of 60 years, Lewis E. Williams.
Lorna’s childhood included moving from Sydney, Australia to Vancouver, Canada, Seattle, and in the fifth grade, Alderwood Manor, Washington. She attended Alderwood Manor Grade School and graduated from Edmonds High School in 1945. She and Lewis met at the University of Washington and were married in Juneau, Alaska in 1947. Upon Barry’s arrival the following year and missing their family and friends back “home,” they returned to Alderwood and built their first house on Walnut Way (now 52nd Ave W). Lorna worked for several years at Ed’s Market, which later became Grocery Boys.
In 1959 Lewis, Lorna, and Barry moved from the PNW to San Diego where Lewis began a long career with NASSCO. Lorna worked for Security Pacific Bank, which later merged with Bank of America, for 25 years. She and Lewis loved Hawaii and spent several weeks each October at the Hale Koa in Honolulu, but mostly at the “Moki” on Kauai, catching up with classmates and dear friends from Washington.
Lorna was an avid reader. Her Kindle was always loaded with several favorite English mystery writer’s work. She traveled “across the pond” twice and enjoyed reminiscing and sharing all that she saw and experienced in the British Isles and Paris. In addition to traveling, Lorna enjoyed playing golf, attending Padre and Charger games, and hosting family and friends from near and far.
In 2017 Lorna returned to Lynnwood to be closer to her family. She and Rusty (her adopted orange tabby, also known as a Viking cat) moved into Fairwinds at Brighton Court. Both found a welcoming, very caring staff, and lots of laughter.
Remembrances can be made in Lorna’s name to the Lynnwood Alderwood Manor Heritage Association –P.O. Box 2206, Lynnwood, WA 98036. She and Lewis were charter members (1991) and always looked forward to the summer potluck reunions.
