Martha Lucretia Patterson was born to John Jack Rebideau and Margaret Skinner Rebideau on July 2, 1917 in Red Bank, Wyoming. She passed away March 31, 2011 in Seattle, Washington. Lucretia, as she was called by her family, married Frank Eugene Patterson on July 13, 1935 in Worland, Wyoming. When Frank passed away in 1997 they had been married just under 62 years. They had three sons, Charles, Calvin and Rodney and one daughter while living in Wyoming. Charles and the daughter each died at birth. Frank herded sheep and farmed and Martha kept house and raised the children. At one time they homesteaded a place at Nowood, Wyoming and built a small cabin. In 1941 they packed up and moved to San Joaquin Valley in California to join frank's parents in the orchard and vineyard business. Three more sons, Raymond, Dennis, and Richard were born while they lived in California.
Because of Frank's health, in 1949, they headed to Alaska but their money only got them as far as Ellensburg, Washington. Frank took work as a farm hand and did that until he had an accident which required a two-year stay in the hospital. Martha kept the family together and they survived as best they could. When Frank returned home the family followed their son, Calvin, to Seattle. Again, as Frank worked at various jobs, Martha used her time tending to the boys, cooking and crocheting. She excelled at all of these. They eventually bought a house on N. 85th in North Seattle about 1958 and began to attend the Faith Temple Church. When Faith Temple started a pre-school, Martha became the cook for the children. Soon the church and school staff were enjoying Martha's meals. Many have fond memories of "Martha's Kitchen".
Martha's past-time was crocheting and quilting and her family have many beautiful doilies, bedspreads and quilts to remember "Grandma Martha" by. As long as she lived at Northhaven Retirement Home she volunteered her time to crochet scarves and baby blankets for donation.
Martha is survived by her five sons and their spouses, Calvin and Beverly, Rodney, George Raymond and Mary, Dennis and Jackie, and Richard and Pat Patterson; 21 grandchildren (including spouses); 38 great-grandchildren (including spouses); and 9 great-great grandchildren.
Donations may be made in martha's name to the Northaven Foundation, 11045 8th Ave NE, Seattle, WA 98125.
