She married Wilbur Henry Lawson, the great love of her life on September 24, 1942. Mary met Bill while attending Joplin Business College. Mary and Bill had a life filled with adventure. During their 65 years of marriage, Mary followed Bill to many exotic locations in his work with Howard S. Wright Construction Company. As construction superintendent he managed huge jobs on the west coast from Los Angeles to Prudhoe Bay, Alaska. Mary joined him on these adventures but always maintained their residence along the Sammamish River between Kenmore and Bothell.
Bill and Mary enjoyed living for short times in so many places – they also enjoyed boating on their craft, “La Querida,” golfing, Elks Club events, and traveling in their motor home.
Mary was a fun loving lady with a strong personality. She had stories to share and always had words of wisdom for the younger generation. One of these was “Always share a kiss with your loved ones at the day’s end and start a fresh day the next.”
Mary was so very proud that she was able to honor Bill’s wishes to stay in their home during his last months of illness. He wanted to be there to enjoy the view of the river and not be hospitalized or in a nursing home. Having to leave her wonderful home along the river when she could no longer care for herself was very difficult for Mary.
She is survived by many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and Bill’s brother in Texas.
