Richard V. Metzger

Richard Victor Metzger, fourth born of Jake and Leona Metzger, on 11/2/33 in Hebron, North Dakota, died on 2/15/2013 after a short but courageous battle with mesothelioma.

Dick met and married Laverne Becher, also a Hebron native on 8/12/1953 upon his release from active duty in the US Navy.

Dick migrated to Seattle with is wife and four children in 1962 where he began is career as a meat cutter with local 81. He remained with them until he retired in 1997. A man of humble beginnings, he worked tirelessly to provide for his family. Dick continued to work part time for QFC, finally re-retiring in 2010 to care for his ailing wife.

Dick was in constant motion keeping himself busy with a variety of hobbies. First and foremost, was his passion for maintaining a meticulous yard and garden. There wasnʼt a home repair project he couldnʼt complete. Later in life he learned the game of golf and it became a great source of pleasure and frustration. He went on weekly outings with his dearest friend, Curt, in an attempt to improve his score.

A consummate sun lover, Dick and Laverne escaped to Palm Springs every February, traveled to Hawaii, and were frequent passengers on several cruise ships.

A devout Christian and member of Westgate Chapel in Edmonds, WA. Dick left this world to a great celebration in Heaven where he now has a new, healthy body. We are comforted in the promise that we will meet again.

Dick was proceeded in death by wife, Laverne, and is survived by his four children, Vicki Metzger, Kevin Metzger (Anita), Kim Frisk (Mark) and Debbie Conwell (Jeff), and eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren. All of whom are tremendously blessed to have been able to call him dad and grandpa. He left a legacy of love and instilled a great sense of dedication and commitment to excellence which we will all benefit from.

Memorial Services will held on Tuesday, February 26, 2013 at 11:00am, Purdy & Walters at Floral Hills 409 Filbert Rd, Lynnwood, WA 98036. Place of Rest, Tahoma National Cemetery.
