

graduated from Ballard High School (’51), was a Korean War veteran, and worked for 44 years as a printer at the Seattle PI (later the Seattle Times).
He was preceded in death by both parents and his brother, Donald Kaivola. Bob enjoyed fishing, camping, hiking, skiing, and boating. He was
generous, had a strong sense of fairness, and met life’s challenges with courage. He could be unexpectedly mischievous. Bob is survived by his wife of 25 years, Joanne; his daughter Karen Kaivola (Bonnie Tensen) of Minneapolis, MN; his daughter Linda Kaivola of Mill Creek, WA; grandchildren Jennifer Pelland and Mark Pelland; great grandchildren Dylan Pelland, Isaac Pelland, Oliver Braitsch, and Kaylee Pelland; and niece Amy Kaivola Perrigo. He is also survived by Joanne’s children Norman (Marie) Forbes, Susan Forbes, and Stephen (Tammy) Forbes; grandchildren Jennifer (Brian) Sparks, Vanessa (Steve) Lesh, Jason (Jen) Bembers, Taylor (Chelsey) Forbes, Sebastien Forbes,Jacques Forbes, and Sophie Forbes; and great grandchildren Nathan Lesh, Nicole Lesh, Jacob Bembers, Cameron Bembers, and Grayson Forbes. A Graveside Service will be held Monday, November 2, at 11am, at Purdy and Walters at Floral Hills in Lynnwood, WA.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a favorite charity “in remembrance of Robert Kaivola”.
