On February 27, 2025, our dad Robert M. Pettitt went home to be with his Heavenly Father and Savior Lord Jesus Christ. He passed away peacefully at his earthly home shared with his wife, Marilyn of 58 years.
Dad was born in November of 1935. Upon completion of high school, he attended college for a short time and then went on to join the Navy/Marines where he spent the next four years of his life as an x-ray technician in the Neurological Surgical Department of the US Naval Hospital in California. While in the Navy, dad served with distinction and received a commendation from his commanding officer. He was released from the Navy with an Honorable Discharge.
After the Navy, Dad worked in various roles ranging from computer programing analyst to Director of telecommunications. Here, too, he received many commendations for the work he had done. On his off hours, one could find him playing basketball or tennis on the courts of the local club. He had such a strong love of sports. Spring and Summer included time on the softball field pitching or playing outfield and he was a part of many leagues over the years. He received many trophies and awards throughout his lifetime, but most of all he enjoyed playing the game.
Dad loved spending time outdoors. The moment the rains stopped, his motorcycle became his main mode of transportation. Summer weekends were often spent taking family camping trips, bike trips, or trips floating down the river in innertubes at the local park. Spring breaks were filled with vacations to Arizona, Disneyland, or cruising in the Caribbean. He enjoyed making memories and most of all, spending time with family.
Dad’s strongest passion, however, was for the Lord. His dedication to his family and those he served were a true reflection of the love and commitment he had for his Father in Heaven. He served many years in the church teaching Sunday school, singing in the choir, and serving as a deacon. More recently, he spent countless hours preparing coffee for the weekly church services as well as other functions held at the church. He volunteered as a security guard for the church for many years, patrolling and locking up the church many nights a week. His love and support throughout the years was such a blessing to many.
Robert is survived by his wife, Marilyn, his five children and their families. He will be truly missed.
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11
