Stuart was a friend and a mentor.  I worked alongside him, and I worked for him; and he treated me the same way in either case.  We had great fun and adventures together, from Germany to Barbados on Octopus to debugging code that misbehaved in microseconds.  A piece of Stuart will always be with me; but the world seems so much more empty without him.  Fair winds, sailor.

I am so very sorry to just learn of Stu’s passing.   He was one of my best friends at Purdue!  There were 4 of us that were inseparable at Harrison hall in 1990-91 - me, Stu, Rob Jarrell and Kari Palek (now Raplee).  Kari and I always wanted to catch up with him again.  It sounds like he had an amazing life!!! ❤️

Words cannot express how sorry I am for your loss.  I was friends with Stu at Purdue - he was honestly one of my best friends during those years in the dorms.   I was just looking at college scrapbooks with my son & it brought back memories.

Stuart was the very first person to welcome me and our family  when we moved to Kenmore.

I drove up the coast ahead of the rest of the family to take possession of the house and set things up for a very pregnant Sylvia and our older kids. Very tired from the long drive, I pulled in the driveway on a Saturday morning, found the key, and walked around the house to verify all was well.

On the one side, it was easiest to walk down the neighbor's driveway to get to the back of the house. A girl was playing basketball at the bottom of the driveway. As I slowly walked down the driveway and said "hi", the girl called for her dad, who stepped out with a firm, "Can I help you?"

Of course, the driveway and house were the Graham's, the girl was Carlie, and dad was Stuart. I explained that I had just bought the house next door and wanted to say "hello". The gruff, protective dad evaporated, a warm smile appeared, and Stuart took the next several minutes to enthusiastically welcome me to the neighborhood.

A wonderful memory of a kind man and a good father. Thank you, Stuart, for the warm welcome that shaped how our family felt in our new home. 

We have very fond memories of Stuart from when we moved to Kenmore back in 2012, right next door to his family. 

With our three little ones, we were very often out in our backyard and heading over to play with Carlie and Jax on their super-fun equipment, while Stuart was hanging out, relaxing with his kids after work or on the weekends. Ross had many in-depth and enjoyable conversations with him about his work with Vulcan. 

You are a gentle soul and loving father, Stuart. Thank you for being part of our kids' childhood and a fabulous neighbor.

Mitzi and family,

My heart breaks for all of you!  It's so hard being miles away to not be there for you but please know I'm just a phone call away dear!  You will be in my thoughts and prayers for the days ahead.  Love you sweet cousin!!

Many fond memories of Stuart over the years — he will be missed by many, but forgotten by none.

He always had a smile and a heart of gold.

Stuart was my youngest cousin and I have fond memories of family gatherings in Indiana at the grandparents' house and at lake cottages. I am so happy that I got to know him as a kid. He was quiet but, always had a knowing gleam in his eye. I think he was wiser than his years and could see below the surface. I wish I could have spent more time with him as an adult but, we were separated by distance. 
I send my love and best wishes to Mitzi and his children, to his brother Doug and his family, to his sister and my soulmate, Laura, and her husband, and to my wonderful Aunt Nancy, his mother. 


Today, the friends Stu’s made while working at Vulcan gathered to remember him. The sharing overflowed with caring, warmth, respect, and good memories. Colleagues remembered Stu as smart, loyal, calm, articulate, devoted to family, focused, a good listener, and a caring co-worker.  He was in the trenches with you, and he had your back. He listened and he followed up. He had a great sense of humor.

We will miss him.
