

Early Life and Service to Country
Born in Iola, Wisconsin to Harold and Thelma Wallen, Bill grew up on a dairy farm with his sister Mary Sisk. He attended Iola-Scandinavia HS (class of 1963) and won a scholarship for Agricultural Studies from the University of Madison Wisconsin where he attended until he answered the call to service in 1965 and served his country for 6 years. During his time in service his sharp focus and discipline earned him the National Defense Service Medal -Good Conduct and Expert Marksmanship Badge (Rifle M-14). He left service in 1971 as a Specialist E-4.
Lifelong Career and Passions
Following Bill’s military service as a Helicopter Mechanic, he went back to college and worked for Boeing. After Boeing he went to work for All-Fab and continued in the Aerospace Industry for the next 50 years as a Mechanical Engineer. His career helped projects that reached the skies.
As a farm kid at heart, he and his wife Pat enjoyed visiting daughter Tina and the grandkids on their farm in Elk, WA and helping with all the animals and farm chores.
Bill enjoyed watching sports with his son David, fixing cars with Will and discussing family still in Trondheim, Norway with his grandson Colton.
He was proud of his Norwegian heritage, speaking Norwegian prayers at holiday meals and singing children's songs to the grandkids and great grandkids.
The Love of His Life
On May 29, 1970, Bill married the love of his life, Patricia, in Idaho. Together, they built a beautiful life spanning 56 years.
Preceded in Death by his parents Harold and Thelma Wallen and his niece, Darla-rae Amundson.
Survived by
His beloved wife Pat, his sister Mary Sisk and his nephew Dennis Amundson.
His children Tina Hermann, Barbara Cole, David Wallen, Will Wallen Jr.
His Grandchildren Sondra Fox, Laura Graves, Colton Rice, Gene Baump and Cody Smith
His Great Grandchildren Audriana Fox, Beckham Fox, Laila Graves, Adalia Graves
Memorial Services
A service to honor Bill's life, Faith and Military Service will be held at Purdy and Walters at Floral Hills Friday June 12, 2026 at 2pm.
