Barbara Adams Wernette

Barbara Adams Wernette, 82, went to be with her Lord on January 7, 2015, after a battle with cancer. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 10, 2015 at 3:00 pm at Forest Hills United Methodist Church in Macon, GA with The Rev. Dianne Sweckard and The Rev. Teresa Edwards officiating. The family will greet friends an hour prior to the service at the church. The burial will be private at Macon Memorial Park Cemetery. The family suggests that memorial gifts be made to Forest Hills United Methodist Church Building Fund, 1217 Forest Hill Rd. Macon, GA 31210, or Central Georgia CARES Animal Rescue, 520 Professional Dr., Ste 2, Macon, GA 31201.

Barbara was born on February 15, 1932 in Macon, GA to the late Vivian Tate Adams and James Earl Adams. She met and married Earl Presley Wernette while working at Robins Air Force Base and they raised their two children in Warner Robins. After retiring from the Base, she and her husband enjoyed traveling, square dancing, and living at Lake Sinclair. They returned to Macon in 2001 and joined Forest Hills United Methodist Church. Barbara was a member of the Grace Bible Class and the Dorcas UMW Circle.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Earl Presley Wernette, and sister, Shirley Ann Kelley. She is survived by her son, Michael David Wernette Sr. (Sue) and daughter, Patti Wernette Hobbs; sister, Kay Adams McGeHee (Tom); niece, Shelley McGeHee Fiebig (Jay); nephew, Joseph Lanier McGeHee; niece, Cissy Hester Austin; nephew, Sonny Hester; nephew, Steve Kelley; two grandchildren, Michael David Wernette Jr. (Jess) and Katie Wernette; three great grandchildren, Michael David Wernette III, Jory Arthur Wernette, and Casey Lee Wernette; brother-in-law, Fred Wernette, and sister-in-law, JoAnn King; and her beloved cat, Toby. We would like to give special mention to Pine Pointe Hospice for their care and her sitters who took wonderful care of her during her illness, Celena Williams and Rose Sanders.
