Ben Riley Johnson, Sr. 88, went to be with his Lord on Wednesday, July 14, 2021. Funeral services and a celebration of life will be held at 2:00PM on Friday, July 16, 2021 in the chapel of Macon Memorial Park Funeral Home with Pastor Charles Carter officiating. Burial will follow in Macon Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will greet friends on Thursday, July 15, 2021 from 6:00PM to 8:00PM at the funeral home.
Ben was born in Macon, GA to the late Gaines M. Johnson and Martha Roberts Johnson. He was a United States Army veteran and a retired truck driver for the former Georgia Highway Express, now Transus. Ben was a member of Bloomfield United Methodist Church until its dissolution, and most recently a member of Friendship Baptist Church. He loved nature, whether camping or playing and watching sports, but put his God and his family above all else. Ben had a servant’s heart, always helping and doing for others, without seeking praise. He kept his humility and lived humbly, setting an example for his children to follow, always honoring the Lord and helping his fellow man. Ben was preceded in death by two sisters and two brothers.
Survivors include his loving wife of almost 70 years, Barbara Johnson; children, Ben R. Johnson, Jr. and Elisha Johnson Tharpe ( Scott); grandchildren, Brandon Tharpe (Haley Amerson) and Timothy Tharpe; and his “sidekick”, Libby.
