Betty VanLandingham Clements

Betty VanLandingham Clements of Macon passed away peacefully on August 9, 2024. Betty was born on September 9, 1927 in Macon, GA, daughter of the late Alfred Herman and Ruby VanLandingham. After losing her father at age 16, Betty graduated high school early and began working at the Macon Iron & Paper Stock Company to support her and her mother. In 1947, she married the love of her life, F.L. Clements, and they were married 62 years before his passing in 2009. They spent time in Newnan and Fayetteville, NC, but made their permanent home in Macon, where they raised their son, Larry. She was later the primary caregiver for her mother until her passing at age 96.

For many years, Betty worked as a legal secretary for several prominent attorneys, including Luther and T. Coleman Bloodworth, J. Alton Gladin, as well as her father-in-law Francis Larcus Clements. She was a loyal servant of God and the church, and an active member of Vineville Baptist, where she served on many committees, played piano for several Sunday School departments, and enjoyed singing in the church choir.

Betty had many hobbies, was an excellent cook and “crafter”, before that term was trendy or even existed! She was also an extremely talented seamstress, and made beautiful clothes for herself and her family. Her talent for Halloween costumes, superhero capes, and Dorothy dresses was especially loved by her son and grandchildren.

In her later years she lived at Arbor Terrace of Burnt Hickory in Marietta, GA, where she was quickly named the Social Ambassador, helping to welcome new residents into their community, and she never missed Bingo or a movie night. Betty joins her beloved husband in heaven, and she is survived by her son, Dr. Larry V. Clements of Marietta GA, grandchildren, Van Clements, Caroline and Chris Kulinski, and great-granddaughter, Sabrina Kulinski of Atlanta GA.

A Celebration of her Life will be held Wednesday, August 14, 2024 at 11:00 AM at Snow's Funerals & Cremations at Macon Memorial Park, 3969 Mercer University Drive, Macon, Georgia 31204, followed by a visitation. Long-time friend Matt Brinkley will officiate. She will be laid to rest in Macon Memorial Park Cemetery (Private), 3969 Mercer University Drive, Macon, GA 31204. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to a charity of your choice.
