Betty J. Darity

It is with great sorrow that the family of Betty Jane Darity, 76, announces her passing on Friday, January 5th, 2018 after a year-long illness. Visitation is scheduled for Tuesday, January 9, 2018 from 1:00pm until 2:00pm at Macon Memorial Park Funeral Home in Macon, and a funeral service and celebration of her entrance into Heaven will be held on Tuesday, January 9, 2018 at 2:00p.m. in the Chapel of the funeral home with Rev. E. Y. Stokes and Rev. Chris Minton officiating. Entombment will follow in the Mausoleum in Macon Memorial Park Cemetery. Those who so desire may make memorial donations in memory of Betty to Lizella Baptist Church, 2950 S Lizella Rd, Lizella, GA 31052.

Betty was born in Plant City, FL on April 2, 1941, but she lived most of her life in Macon, GA. Betty married her soulmate and best friend, Emmett, on June 19, 1957 and the two were inseparable from that day on. Wherever you saw Betty, you saw Emmett, too. The focus of her life was always her family, and she focused on raising her daughters to be like her: strong, independent and classy. For many years, she was a homemaker who loved to cook and sew, but once her girls were old enough, she began working outside the home in sales. She worked for the Middle Georgia Penny Pincher paper for many years, taking the publication from 4 to 32 pages during her time there. Betty was also top producer at Macon Memorial Park of Macon. She worked there for over 10 years and won many awards and trips while there. After retiring, she and Emmett loved to travel domestically and internationally, and her hobbies included reading, shopping and antiquing.

Betty will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 60 years, Emmett C. Darity, Jr. and their daughters, Cindy Darity of Catawba, North Carolina, Terri Darity Mitchell of Macon, and Tonya Darity Butler (Matt) of Gray. “Granny” will also be warmly and happily remembered by her nine grandchildren and her ten great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind two brothers, two sisters and many nieces and nephews.
