A celebration of her life will be held on Thursday, February 26, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Lawrence Drive Baptist Church. The family will greet friends from 1:00 p.m. to service time at the church. Burial will be in Macon Memorial Park Cemetery with the Rev. Phil Skelton and Rev. Sean Beck officiating.
Bonnie was a loving and devoted daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She was the heart and nucleus of her family – the one who gathered everyone around the table, faithfully preparing meals and desserts that nourished both body and soul. Her kitchen was a place of comfort, laughter, and unconditional love.
For 61 years, she shared her life with her husband, Gerald H. Hudgins, together they built a beautiful family and shared many great memories.
Bonnie was the oldest daughter of the late Thomas Edward Wood and Opaline Grinstead Wood of Macon. Bonnie had a servant’s heart and a gentle spirit. She loved reading, baking, cooking for others, and doting on her beloved fur babies, Rocko and Bruno. She found great joy in attending women’s Bible study at Lizella Baptist Church and worshiping at her home church, Lawrence Drive Baptist Church. Her faith in Christ was steady and evident in the way she loved and served others.
She faithfully served the State of Georgia for 34 years, beginning her career at the Bibb County Health Department and later continuing her work with the Bibb County Department of Family and Children Services. Her dedication to caring for families extended far beyond her profession – it was simply who she was.
She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Gerald Hugh Hudgins; her daughter, Melanie Sue Eubanks (Kent); her son, Gerald E. Hudgins; five grandchildren, Kayla Sue Whitley (Justin), Kirsten Harrison (Hank), Emily Hudgins, Alexander Hudgins, and Victoria Hudgins, and one great granddaughter, Magnolia Sue Whitley the fourth “Sue” lovingly named in her honor – and another precious great grandchild expected in May; a niece, Tami Champlin (Josh), and two great nephews, Jacob and Jordan.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt appreciation to the entire staff at Pine Pointe Hospice for the compassionate care and love shown to Bonnie during her final days.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hope Ministry at Lizella Baptist Church on South Lizella Road or Pine Point Hospice on Peake Road. Both ministries were faithful in loving and caring for Bonnie and her family.
Bonnie’s favorite Scripture was Romans 8:28: “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.”
