

Everett Daniel Dwight “Dan” Vaught, 83, went home to be with his Lord Jesus Christ after a recent illness in Macon, Georgia, on February 26, 2017. A Celebration of his life will be held at 11:00 am, Wednesday, March 1, 2017, at Macon Memorial Park Funeral Home with Rev. Robert Farr officiating. The family will greet friends Wednesday morning from 10:00 am until 11:00 am at Macon Memorial Park Funeral Home. Flowers are accepted, or donations may be made to Middle Georgia Community Food Bank, 4490 Ocmulgee East Blvd., Macon, 31217.
Mr. Vaught was born on October 25, 1933, in Oakvale, West Virginia, to the late Rev. Laud Lannis Vaught and the late Mary Harless Vaught. Mr. Vaught was preceded in death by his eight siblings including Mr. Elmer Josiah Vaught, who died serving in Europe during the Second World War, and Dr. Laud Oswald Vaught, a veteran of the Second World War and the former president of Northwest Bible College. Mr. Vaught graduated from Princeton High School in 1951 and from Western Carolina University in 1955 with a B.A. in Business Administration. He was a member of the United States Army Reserves. At the beginning of his career he taught school in Whitfield County, Georgia. He worked for the United States Department of Labor until his retirement in 1983. While living on St. Simons Island, GA, he was a member of the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary and served one term as president. In Macon Mr. Vaught was an active member of Emmanuel Church, member of the Macon Kiwanis Club, serving one term as president, and a volunteer at Meals on Wheels, Middle Georgia Community Food Bank, and The Methodist Childrens Home.
Mr. Vaught loved music, played the piano, and led church choirs. He also enjoyed woodworking, boating, fishing, and being with his family.
Mr. Vaught is survived by his wife of 62 years, Martha Gibson Vaught, of Lizella, his son, Byron Everett Vaught of Ashland, VA, and his daughter, Tamie Vaught Esmond of Macon, GA. He is survived by daughter-in-law, Dana Trost Vaught and son-in-law, Steven Meader Esmond. He is also survived by his eleven grandchildren, Gibson Vaught, Bender Vaught, Collins Vaught, Samuel Esmond, Simon Esmond, Micah Esmond, James Esmond, Sarah Esmond, Mary Esmond, Caleb Esmond and Stephen Esmond, great-grandson, William Blake Esmond, sister-in-law Mary Stiles, brother-in-law Virgil Gibson, and numerous nieces and nephews.
